Location
Often unheard of, Nyetimber is a small hamlet located inland and within the Village of Pagham. Positioned to the east of Bognor Regis and within the county of West Sussex, South East England. The Postcodes all start with PO21.
History
The oldest record of the area dates to 700 AD and is a spectacular building called Barton Manor, which is the oldest and continually inhabited Manor House in Britain. The Manor is listed in the Guinness book of records and over the years has been carefully renovated and now comprises of luxury apartments.
The name derives from Neuetimbra, meaning ’new timbered building’ and was first recorded in the 12th Century and was formally separate but has now been adopted by its neighbouring Village, Pagham.
The area originally consisted of a few scattered Cottages, lived in by farmworkers and a Windmill which was built in the 1840s. Nyetimber Mill was working up until 1915 and was later struck by lightning, it was later converted in 2005 and is now the Communal Lounge for a Retirement Complex.
Amenities
The most talked-about amenities are our famous pubs, which are all a stone throw from each other and adored by the locals. They date back to the 15th Century and include The Lion, The Inglenook and The Lamb. They all offer a wonderful atmosphere as well as fantastic food and drinks.
Other amenities include a Village Hall, Post Office, Tesco Express, Hairdressers, Café, Takeaway restaurants, and of not forgetting, home to Whitlocks Estate Agents.
High Street
Nyetimber doesn’t have a High Street but there is a selection of amenities located on Pagham Road. Chichester City Centre and Bognor Regis Town Centre offer the closest High Streets.
Property Types
The property types drastically vary in the area, there are many original Cottages, particularly located on Pagham Road, there are also much newer properties built around the 1960’ which comprise of Houses, Apartments, Bungalows as well as Mill Farm Estate which are residential Park Homes. Barton Close is a Private Road consisting of highly sought-after Houses and Bungalows, some of which are Converted Barns.
Transport Links
The 600 Bus Service runs through Nyetimber regularly and provides links from Elmer through to Chichester. The closest Train Station is Bognor Regis, which is approximately 3.7 miles away. Chichester is slightly further, at 6 miles North. Both stations offer direct transport links to London Victoria and Gatwick airport.
Schools
Pagham Playgroup and The Village Station Pre-school are in the area and in Rose Green, an Infant and Junior School can be found.
What we love about Nyetimber
The local pubs create such a wonderful atmosphere and really are the hub of the community. Boxing day is the most specular day of the year, the streets and filled with locals as well as visitors to join in on the fun the Pram Race has to offer, which is the oldest Pram Race in the world! We also love the convenience of the Village, with amenities on the doorstep.
