Bognor Regis Town Football Club

As part of our Local Community feature, we’re proud to shine a light on Bognor Regis Town Football Club, affectionately known as The Rocks.

For over 140 years, this much-loved club has been central to local spirit, teamwork, and culture, becoming a true cornerstone of life in Bognor.

Founded in 1883 as Bognor FC, the club became one of the original members of the West Sussex Football League in 1896. In 1929, following King George V’s renaming of the town to Bognor Regis, the club adopted the same title, later becoming Bognor Regis Town in 1949. Its early history was filled with success, including a remarkable run of five consecutive league titles in the 1920s. Over the decades, The Rocks climbed the ranks of English football, competing in the Sussex County League, Southern League, Isthmian League, and even the Conference South, building a reputation for determination and community spirit.

They have also enjoyed memorable cup campaigns. The team has reached the FA Cup First Round numerous times, with one of the most famous moments being their victory over Swansea City in 1984, when they won 3–1 in a thrilling replay. During the 1980s, under the guidance of long-serving manager Jack Pearce, the club dominated the Sussex Senior Cup, lifting the trophy six times, including an incredible five consecutive wins that cemented their reputation as one of the county’s finest teams.

Home is the MKM Arena at Nyewood Lane, a ground with space for around 4,500 fans, including 350 seated. The stadium itself has its own fascinating history, with floodlights originally brought in from Wembley Stadium and new structures added in the 1970s. In 2008, tragedy struck when a fire destroyed the clubhouse, but in true community spirit, it was rebuilt and reopened the following year as “Seasons,” a lively clubhouse and events space that continues to thrive today. Looking to the future, the club is preparing for exciting upgrades in 2025, with plans for a modern 3G pitch, enhanced floodlights, perimeter improvements, and updated dressing rooms, ensuring that Nyewood Lane continues to serve as a hub for football and community life.

We are especially proud of our own connection with Bognor Regis Town FC. Whitlocks is proudly displayed on an eye-catching advertising board at Nyewood Lane, ensuring we’re part of the matchday experience for every fan. We also take part in the club’s exciting shirt sponsorship draw, showcasing our support in a way that is both meaningful and visible to the community we serve.

Partnering with Bognor Regis Town isn’t simply about having our name at the ground—it’s about supporting a club that represents the very best of local pride and togetherness and we’re delighted to play our part in their story.

If you’re part of another local group, sports team, or organisation doing fantastic work in the community, we’d love to hear from you.
